5 Day Week Long Trip to Beautiful Honolulu

1st Day


  • 9:52 am: Fly from SFO to Honolulu
  • 3:45 pm: Arrive in Daniel K. Inouye International Airport
  • 4:15 pm: Pick up car rental from Hertz
  • 4:30 pm: Go to Costco to pick up eats
    • Eggs
    • Breakfast meats
    • Beer/sake/alcohol
    • Random Hawaiian snacks
    • They also have poke… POKE!
  • 6:00 pm: Check into Wyndham @ Waikiki Beach Walk
  • 7:30 pm: Have dinner at Mitch’s Fish Market (they close at 8:30pm)
    • BYOB so you can bring your own beer and sake
    • Get the spiny lobster sashimi
      • They turn this into a lobster miso at the end of the day or sashimi sampler
  • 9:00 pm: Drop by Foodland grocery store
    • Ginger ale
    • Spam
      • They SO MANY flavors

Day 2


  • 5:00 am: Eat Breakfast
    • Cooked garlic spam
    • Garlic rice
    • Made some of the local coffee
  • 10:30 am: Pick up lunch at Ono Seafood
    • They have so much poke that’s equally delicious
  • 11:00 am: Malasadas at Leonard’s Bakery
    • They also have a lot of different flavors
    • But be warned they are heavy (I wasn’t able to finish all of it)
  • 3:30 pm: Hike Diamond Head
    • Can take 1-3 hours depending on how many photos you take
    • Cost: Parking $5 and Walk Ins $1
    • This moderate 1.5-mile round-trip hike starts from the middle of the Diamond Head volcano crater
    • Climbs about 560 feet up the side to the top of the rim
  • 4:00 pm: Eat at Pioneer Saloon (they close at 8pm)
    • Miso butterfish (amazing)
    • Garlic ahi- medium rare
  • 5:00 pm: Diamond Head Cove Health Bar
    • Get the “MANA BOWL”
      • Acai topped with Granola, Bananas, Strawberries, Blueberries, Bee Pollen & Honey
  • 6:00 pm: Hang out at condo
    • Drink wine
    • Eat the mana bowl
  • 8:00 pm: Walk around Waikiki Main Strip
    • Check out the Halloween fun!
    • Who knew that there would be so many people dressing up?
  • 9:00 pm: Eat udon at Marukame Udon
    • Surprisinlgy there wasn’t a long line
  • 10:00 pm: Head back to condo to rest

Day 3


  • 11:00 am: Eat lunch at Yama’s Fish Market
    • Get the “lau lau combo”
  • 3:00 pm: Snorkel at Hanauma Bay
    • Initially we went looking for a trail but couldn’t find it
    • Saw that we were nearby and decided to go swim instead of hike
  • 6:30 pm: Pick up some spam musubi from Iyasume Musubi
  • 7:00 pm: Go back to hotel
    • Shower
    • Drink
    • And get ready for dinner
  • 8:00 pm: Have dinner at Alan Wong’s Restaurant
    • Very fancy dinnger
    • Very delicious dinner
    • And even though there’s a dress code that I tried to follow, I still felt overdressed

Day 4


  • 8:00 am: Eat breakfast
    • Cooked at the condo
    • Made fried rice with eggs, spam and leftover rice
  • 9:30 am: Drive out to North Shore
    • It was a longer drive than anticipated
  • 10:45 am: Eat at Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck (Haleiwa location)
    • They have a great shrimp plate
  • 11:20 am: Go have shaved ice at Matsumoto’s Shave Ice open from 9-6
    • Maybe it was a bad day but I found the shaved snow very course
  • 11:40 am: Go to Lanikai Beach to try to find sea turtles
  • 12:30 am: Take 2 hr Stand Up Paddle lessons with nature/turtle tour with Sea & Board Sports Haleiwa
    • I suck at Stand Up Paddling
    • Nadia is AWESOME at Stand Up Paddling
  • 2:45 pm: Check out sea turtles near Baywatch office house
  • 3:00 pm: Have a second lunch at Macky’s
    • It was a good shrimp plate but not as good(?) as the other one
  • 4:30 pm: Go to Electric Beach for some more snorkeling
  • 6:15 pm: Eat loco moco/mixed plate at Rainbow Drive-In
    • So good
    • Ate our plates outside at an available picnic table

Day 5


  • 10:00 am: Eat at Sweet E’s Cafe
    • Kalua pork eggs benedict with herb roasted potatoes
  • Hang out and get lost in Waikiki
  • Walked along the beach
  • Ate snacks up and down the strip
  • Had  drink at a beachside bar
  • Get cookies.. lots and lots of cookies!
  • Returned the rental car
  • 10:27 pm: Flight back to SJC

  • Sunscreen
  • Snorkel gear

Price Breakdown | $540 Per Person


United Round Trip Flight to Honolulu from San Francisco for both of us came to about $440 USD.

The entire stay, after points, in Honolulu came down to about $300 USD for the 2 of us minus airfare.

You and another could do our entire trip for less than $1,080 USD plus food and drink.
