711, Lawsons, Family Mart…

Japanese convenience stores all and one thing that I know they have in common is that they sell food.  Here in the US, one doesn’t normally associate great tasting food to stateside convenience stores. And over the years, I’ve heard that the Japanese counterparts have had a tasty reputation which I need to go learn more about.

Enter the Unexplored Culinary Delight That is the Tokyo Convenience Store

Entering the Tokyo stores over the years, I’ve never quite develop enough curiosity to actually try the food available. With all the food that I had yet to try in Tokyo, food from 711, Lawsons and Family Mart was limited to Japan only flavors of ice cream and sodas. After having tried a lot of food, and being simply lazy being surrounded by convenience stores, it felt that it was time to try what they had to offer.

Who knew they had a lot of local Japanese fare in many forms?

  • Onigiri – seaweed wrapped ingredient filled rice balls
  • Sushi
  • Set dishes that are ready to be heated (microwaves available for use)
  • Instant noodles variety (hot water available)
  • Crispy croquette items
  • And more…

1 | Chocolate Biscuits (Look at Picture Above)

These are tasty and come in so many different flavors. I tried a lot of them and they all taste really good with their different flavors. You have several different smooth and sweet chocolate, some more bitter or more sweet than others. And then each piece individually back with a cookie biscuit of different flavors as well. I hear that there are others involving Red Bean and Green Tea and I can imagine even more.

  • Milk chocolate with cookie biscuit
  • White chocolate with oreo like cookie biscuit
  • Dark chocolate with oreo like cookie biscuit
  • Caramel(?) chocolate with cookie(?) biscuit

Surprisingly Great Tasting

All in all, pleasantly surprised with all the options and ultimately that nearly everything tasted good. Sue some versions were better than other store versions of the same flavor. I have yet to try something bad and look forward to trying other things that they sell. So should you!
