CLOSED | Portland Hotel Can’t Be Beat

One word to describe this hotel: location! A couple of streets away from the famous food cart scene, walking distance from the Portland Visitors Center and near restaurants/shopping, you really can’t beat the location. First off, let me preface this by saying this hotel is definitely one of the more pricey hotels in the area but it’s a beautiful hotel in a very convenient location.

From the airport you can take the train directly from the airport to the center of town on the MAX red line to City Center and Beaverton TC to the Pioneer Square North stop. The train itself is only $2.50 and a very affordable way to get into the city into the hotel. Walk a couple of minutes and you’ll be right in front of the hotel.

As an SPG Gold Member I was upgraded to a Starwood Preferred Level and the room was nice. While there was not really much of a view, the room itself was pleasant and very much in line with every other Westin I’ve stayed at. Similarly, the bathroom was also large and comfortable with a tub and a rain shower. In terms of other products, as usual there were free water bottles included with the room and my favorite, white tea scented bath products.

While the room itself was everything as expected, what was not expected and why I could not rate this hotel as highly as most people would was the experience I had with housekeeping. There were two incidents I can think of. The first is around 1pm, housekeeping came knocking on the door incessantly until we opened it despite the fact that there was a do not disturb sign. Can someone tell me what part of the do not disturb sign wasn’t clear? When we finally opened the door, the housekeeping just said “oh never mind”. Really, WTF?! I then had to call down and reconfirm the 4pm checkout, something I had already done once that morning and the day before. Second, as a Gold Member one of the perks is 4pm late checkout; however, 5 minutes before, the housekeeper came rudely knocking on the door demanding to check the mini bar (which we never got the key to in the first place!), shouldn’t they have that kind of thing on file? Overall, an extremely irritating experience and not what I would expect as a SPG preferred member.
