Who doesn’t love a great happy hour?!?!?!

Imagine after having a long day, a long week, or just one of those months, you get off work with your colleagues and need a breather. Someone suggests going to the bar around the corner. You enter a lively venue with generous libation deals like 1 for 1 drinks and a discounted snacks, appetizers, and bar snacks.

WELCOME TO HAPPY HOUR!

In California, where I grew up, this is one of the deals that I became quickly acquainted with all over the Bay Area. There were places that would give heavily discounted food. Others would be BOGO, Buy One Get One deals on drinks or beers. A few hidden gems would give both!

In Singapore, the alcohol is much more expensive than anywhere else I’ve seen in the world; other than maybe Las Vegas. When I see cheap $5 California wines going for nearly 4x the price, I’m a lot less excited. While there are happy hours abound Singapore, none are quite the same to the one’s I’m used to.

It is quite possible that just maybe I don’t go out as much as I used to. There have been a few places that have been memorable though but maybe I need to go explore some more. To date, none have been quite the experience as the Bar at Morton’s Steak House!

Getting to the Mandarin Oriental

You first have to get to the bar before anything else. I suppose it all depends on where you’re coming from because let’s face it, Singapore isn’t all that big and it doesn’t really take that long for one to get anywhere else (unless it’s rush hour).

Coming from my place, we had to get to the train station to get to the sprawling Marina Square mall the Mandarin Oriental is connected to. Then from the inside of the mall, find the connection to the hotel. Turned out that there was some back stairwell that we had to walk down a couple of flights to get the hotel lobby entrance.

Maybe we should have taken a Grab or the bus? Next time…

Finally inside the hotel, we asked the staff where to find this bar. Located on the 4th floor, of to the right, is this elevated funky open globe skeletal framework like space that requires a short set of stairs to get to. Then the fun can finally begin!

Order a Martini or 2

Finding a table for 2, we got a look at the happy hour menu. 3 ounces of solid gin or vodka cocktail for just under $16 SGD! You’ll get to choose from the following Happy Hour Martinis:

  • Cosmopolitan
  • Apple
  • Chocolate
  • Lychee

I can’t imagine any of them are bad, but the Chocolate and Lychee were delicious. Perhaps it’s been a while since I last had a drink but they were potent enough for me to second guess ordering another one. Fortunately I didn’t get the time to think about it since I soon came face to face with a free steak slider.

Whether we came late, or perhaps there weren’t a lot of people at the time, we had our fair share of sliders for the 30 minutes that we were there. The steak was very tender and juicy, complimenting the buttered bread perfectly. I can only imagine how full I’d be if we were there from the very start.

It’s the Best Happy Hour (if you’re hungry)

Did I mention that you get steak sandwiches? Because you do! The Bar at Morton’s is one of, if not the only happy hours, that slings free steak sandwiches to wash down that martini you just ordered.

We incidentally went during the last half hour of the their happy hour and still got stuffed on their free food. I can’t even imagine what it would be like if we went for their full 5pm – 7pm HH window.

Find your way to the Bar at Morton’s and experience the most filling Happy Hour in Singapore!

You're going to eat, you might as well eat something tasty.
