Eat All of Madrid at Mercado de San Miguel
What do you feel like eating tonight?
I wanna eat it all!
Mercado de San Miguel tl;dr
- Bring Credit Card and Cash
- All Kinds of Things to Eat and Drink
- Come with People to Find and Hold Seats
We had heard that markets or mercados were a great place to experience a slice of daily Madrid life. We have been to several mercados and were always amazed by the range in size and variety; some catered to more local needs while others provided a more lively atmosphere.
Mercado San Miguel turned out to be more of the latter. The large space with exposed vaulted ceilings and a lot of food options, you’ll be hard pressed to eat anywhere else.
Where Is It
Smack dab in the middle of the Madrid City Center near the Opera station. Odds are you’ll be going through this area during a walking tour or during one of your own culture expeditions since it’s a popular location.
What to Eat
Just eat everything! Look at these pictures! We went a couple times to San Miguel Market and tried to get a taste of everything; from wine to beer, pizzas to paella, and everything else in between. But there just wasn’t enough time or stomach space during our limited stay to eat it all… We tried.
SO GOOD!
We came back here multiple nights! What was there not to like? They had a lively atmosphere, a variety of foods, and the place was named after me (ok, maybe it wasn’t named after me)! As with most of the time, my preference would be restricted by geography, BUT with that being said, I would go out of my way to to to Mercado San Miguel.
And so should you!
Come early, come hungry, come ready to spend time, and calories enjoying it all.
