Where did they want to meet us?

Somewhere outside Bugis mall…

Xin Yuan Ji tl;dr

  • Fish Head Steamboat
  • Watch Out for the Fire
  • Curry Fish Head?

When we first moved to Singapore, friends of ours invited us out to Xin Yuan Ji for dinner. After finally figuring out how to navigate the city’s metro system, we managed to arrive at Xin Yuan Ji just on time.

What I failed to understand was that Xin Yuan is outside the mall. I was wandering around for the longest time, having become too reliant on my online map. Just goes to show that even the internet can be wrong (though to be fair, wrong only because someone put down the wrong information).

Where Is It

Across from Bugis Junction on street level, a short walk from the Bugis station, you’ll find this blue awning storefront welcoming anyone and everyone.

What to Eat

Within the contrasting white and black decor, you’ll find a large menu. Considering that we were new to town, our hosts ordered for us:

  • Hot pot
  • Stir fried water spinach
  • Har cheong gai (prawn paste chicken wings)

Everything was tasty but the chicken prawn paste chicken wings blew me away. They were very crisp and had a strong prawn flavor that I was unaccustomed to and couldn’t get enough of. It took nearly everything I had to not eat the entire plate of wings.

Solid food has me wondering what their curry fish head and fish soup tastes like?
