Eating All of Malang’s Roti Tugu Bakery
Can you tell me how to get to the bakery?
Oh yeah, just right through the restaurant and through the stockroom…
Roti Tugu Bakery tl;dr
- Homemade Ice Cream
- Fresh Made Breads
- Fresh Baked Goods
Imagine lying there in your Tugu Malang Hotel room, wondering what to do as the day passes you by. You have reason not to go out because you have to get up early but you also don’t want to stay cooped up in the room. More importantly, you want a dessert other than teatime snacks.
Enter Roti Tugu Bakery! They answer all my questions about what to do that’s not too involved, yet not too far away. Time to go look for it and get my grub on.
Where Is It
Honestly, according to the map, I thought I had to go out of the hotel and walk around the corner and then, knowing my sense of direction get horribly lost and never make it back. Ok, maybe that last part if a little much but you get my point… right? So against all I believe in, I asked the front desk staff where it is.
They looked at me and asked which bakery. I explained I read about a Corner Bakery that is supposed to be around the corner. He then led me, first hand, to where I needed to go to satisfy my sweet tooth.
What to Get
There’s so much to look at and drool over. There’s fruits, cakes, cupcakes, breads, cookies, ice cream, brownies and more. Nadia and I walked around browsing the baked sundries till we could find something that screamed out to us.
Yes, I’m all about eating something that you simply have to try; as to whether it really is good or not, is an entirely different story.
After everything was said and done, we walked back to our room with a bunch of stuff:
- Banana bread
- Cookies
- Chocolate brownie
- Marble cake
- Some kind of mystery bread
- And a sesame covered snack(?)
The spot on goods were the banana bread, the peanuts, the sesame snack and the mystery bread, which was akin to a chiffon cake with both savory and sweet components.
I ended up eating the sesame covered snack in conjunction with the peanuts, balancing out the sweetness of both while giving me a nice mouthfeel. The mystery bread reminded me of a Pilipino bread called ensamada in softness and inclusion of cheese.
The cookies, brownie, and marble cake did not live up to our expectations. I think we still have it somewhere waiting for us to eat them.
No Time For Ice Cream
We got so much, maybe, just maybe too much. Some of it hit the spot while others left us wanting.
Perhaps I should have gotten ice cream this time around… However knowing that I had to get up early with a long drive and possibly strenuous hike ahead, I didn’t want to chance a potential need. Whether the need could be fulfilled satisfactorily is yet again a different story.
