Endless Chiang Mai Dishes at Cooking Love
They said they have no seats available…
Don’t worry, there’s another branch around the corner.
Cooking Love tl;dr
- Extra Value Prices
- Great Tasting Food
- Take Your Shoes Off
It’s not everyday that you get to meet up with friends in foreign countries. Making the most of this opportunity we chose a well known local Northern Thai food restaurant to try as much of their cuisine as we could between all of use without feeling like gluttons.
From our hotel, we got a ride to the restaurant and quickly discovered that the first destination was full of groups. Initially I had thought it weird that there were to Cooking Love restaurants located next to each other but found myself remiss and praised the owners careful considering for shortsighted hungry people like myself.
The next location was ready and willing to put our hungers to the test… and they did. I’m still not sure who won, but it was a good battle nonetheless. With our group of different tastes and preferences, we ordered a lot of different things to try all the flavors that we could. I had hoped came in different portion sizes. They did not. They only came in one size; LARGE!
I had secretly hoped the table next to use would quickly finish their meal so that we could place some of our dishes on their empty table. With each consecutive dish that kept coming to their table, my wishes were slowly fading away. Sadly, they were smart and ordered more dishes versus all ordering them all at the start.
Looking around the table, I was ultimately not deterred, my friends looked equally hungry and intimidated by the sheer amount of food that was placed before us. The steamed fish came with this electrifying citric sauce that wouldn’t let us stop eating it. All the other dishes were equally as good but not as surprising as they were a touch more familiar to us.
I can only imagine what the rest of the menu would taste like. I’m pretty sure I could have gone to Cooking Love everyday of our trip and wouldn’t have gotten tired of it in the least.
What is It
Cooking Love is a popular Chiang Mai restaurant serving great Northern Thai dishes that aren’t necessarily well known as Southern Thai cuisine. Come casual, come hungry, and come prepared!
Where is It
Fortunately for us, there are 2 branches located on Ratchadamnoen Road not that far from each other. We stopped at the first one found in lobby area of a smaller hotel but were told that they were full. Walking a few minutes down the road, we were told that they had a table ready and waiting to accommodate us!
What to Do There
EAT EVERYTHING! It was all good! It was all fresh! They were definitely made to order! I can’t wait to go again for more!
- Pineapple Fried Rice
- Steamed Fish
- Papaya Salad
- Seafood Salad
- Chicken Vegetable
- Fried Banana Ice Cream Explosion(?)
- Mango Sticky Rice
Writing this post, it doesn’t sound like a lot but you would be equally fooled like us if you ordered the same dishes. The entire meal, we were eyeing neighboring tables to commandeer to help alleviate the piling mountains of this large dishes that were clearly not meant to fit on our table at one time, but we were not that lucky.
Through hard work, strong stomachs, and great hunger, we soldiered through our surprise and polished off dish after dish till we made it to dessert. Unlike the rest of our group, my sweet tooth was able to see us through to the bitter…. rather, sweet end!
We left Cooking Love with our heads held high and our bellies rotund with the knowledge that we’d meet again because this culinary war of attrition was far from over!
All that food for only $26 USD per person.
