One thing I love while traveling other than taking in the local culture, the local flavors, and the local sights is looking for the local spin on McDonald’s. I know that’s kind of weird but it’s not that I’m looking for what I can find back in the USA. I’m looking for those versions of menu items that I can’t find back in the USA… Like different flavored fried pies and soft serve cones.
Across the Street is a McDonalds!?
And wouldn’t you know it? Right across the street from our hotel is an honest to golly, McDonalds. I’m going to have to find a way to make some time during this trip over there to find out what is what. Plenty of times I’ve been disappointed with merely the same old tried and true menu. But sometimes, every now and again, I come across unique flavors that simply can’t be had anywhere else. Who knows what could be on the Thai menu?

I must have died and gone to Bangkoks McDonalds Fried Pie Heaven! Who knew there would be so many flavors? All offered at one time? At the same branch? In front of me? I must have done something good to have been blessed with these revelations:
- Carbonara (in nondescript packaging)
- Sweet Corn
- Pineapple
- Curry Crab Stick (in nondescript packaging)

Surprising Flavors
The pictures don’t do the pies justice. Nadia was surprised, whether pleasantly or not is subject to debate, by my haul of fried goodness. I sat there in front of a shocked Nadia, mouth agape at my pleasure, organizing the pies and trying to figure out how best to take pictures of them all. I did my best to photograph their glory but perhaps my hunger got the best of me.
Carbonara | Tastes like an eggy deep fried pie version of a hot pocket.
Curry Crab Stick | This was very similar to the carbonara but with a slightly curry and crab flavor.
Corn | Imagine a deep fried pie but instead of gooey apple you bit into a thick creamed corn filling.
Pineapple | Just replace the apple with pineapple and you’re there.

Turns out I didn’t even take a picture of the filling of the Thai Curry Crab Stick… I thought I did, but I guess I didn’t. That’s the way the fried pie crumbles. I’ll just have to go back and find it again…
